We have an immediate opening for a RF & microwave EPR-probe engineer in our Rheinstetten, headquarters.  The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of producing innovative RF & microwave designs for instrumentation.  His/her duties will include conceptual, layout, and detail design of EPR probeheads for analytical instruments.  An in-depth understanding of microwave engineering is required. 


  • Responsible for primary design of EPR probeheads and related auxiliary devices.
  • Participates in forward looking design and feasibility studies for new products and new technologies.
  • Must be a team player capable of working in interdisciplinary teams including physics, chemistry, math, electronics, and others.  Take input from physicists, chemists, and other engineers and turn them into real world pragmatic designs.
  • Responsibilities include the whole development cycle from concept, functional prototyping, building prototype probes, and design debugging.  Working with outside vendors to provide innovative and cost effective EPR probehead solutions.
  • Organize and manage the tasks in cooperation with other mechanical engineers and technical drafters during development until production level status.

Education and/or Experience:

BS electronic engineering plus 8 years experience in broadband microwave passive components; MS electronic engineering plus 5 years experience; or Ph.D. in electronic engineering plus 3 years experience required, or


BS-Physics plus 5 years experience in designing broadband microwave passive components; MS physics plus 3 years experience; or Ph.D. in Physics plus 2 years experience in high frequency required. Reasonable exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.


Solid state technology education and /or design experience is a plus.

Applied physics education (courses) is a plus.

Inorganic chemistry education (courses) is a plus.

Mechanical engineering education (courses) is a plus.

Spectroscopy experience (basic EPR/NMR techniques) is a plus.


Experience in designing passive or active high frequency components for industrial or academic laboratory grade analytical instrumentation is essential.


Computer Skills:

Experience with CST, HFSS or equivalent electromagnetic simulations software is required. 

Experience with circuit simulation software is a plus.

Experience with Matlab is a plus.

Experience with a scientific high-level language like Fortran/C/C++  is a plus.

Experience with ISE and FDK is a plus.

Experience with Solid Edge is a plus.


Other Skills and Abilities:

Individual must be capable of independent judgment in design selection, research approaches, methodologies, and tools.  These attributes must be guided by input from other scientists and fellow engineers.


Ability to communicate with engineers and scientists of other disciplines such as software engineers, electronic engineers, physicists, and chemists, both within the project and with collaborators outside the project group.


Social skills:

Ability to work independently as well as a team-player in an international and multicultural environment is required.


Spoken Languages:

Fluent English – spoken/writing is required

Fluent German language is a plus.


Other Qualifications:

Basic knowledge or experience with solid modeling, thermal management, high voltage management, automation and controls, metallic coating methods and mixed electromagnetic-micromechanical designs are each a plus.  In addition, knowledge of modern metal and plastics manufacturing techniques including 3D printing is well appreciated.
