Luxendo was founded a as spin-off of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in 2015. The company develops and manufactures proprietary light-sheet fluorescence microscopy instruments based on the licensed SPIM (Selective Plane Illumination Microscopy) technology.

SPIM microscopes avoid sample phototoxicity by sequentially illuminating a stack of small slices of the organism, allowing scientists to observe living organisms for an extended / longer period without photo damage. Within two years, three different microscope systems were developed and launched, addressing various applications in live cell imaging. All products are being distributed and supported in all relevant global scientific markets.
