The R&D Scientist has the responsibility, to perform research and development towards new and improved hybrid ion mobility / mass spectrometer products.

The main goals of the R&D Scientist is to perform research for optimization of the Bruker timsTOF product line as well as develop new products to enhance our mass spectrometer portfolio.


  • Development of new hardware and technologies to improve performance and versatility
  • Investigation of new principles towards ion mobility and orthogonal time of flight
  • Project management for R&D projects
  • Design, perform and supervise experiments to qualify developed hardware, evaluate results
  • Supporting patent applications upon development of innovative technologies
  • Writing publications on results, method and patent-applied developments when appropriate
  • Participation at scientific conferences to stay scientifically up to date
  • Perform 3rd level support for customers
  • Support transfer of developments to Production and Service with expertise if necessary
  • Regular training (on and off the job)





  • Knowledge and experience in orthogonal TOF mass spectrometry
  • Knowledge and experience in ion mobility spectrometry
  • University/FH diploma or PhD (physics, chemistry or corresponding engineering disciplines)
  • Knowledge in mass spectrometry, ion physics and vacuum technology
  • Calculations and simulations using Python, SIMION, Comsol
  • Basic knowledge in fine mechanics, materials, construction and electronics
  • Solid scientific English language skills; fluent in spoken and written English
  • Analytic, logical and innovative thinking
  • Good communication skills and team player mentality
  • Well-structured and accurate work style, result oriented
  • Interest in broader range of topics relevant for the work to be performed
